Portugal secured a dominant 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their Group K encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Cristiano Ronaldo delivering a historic performance.

Ronaldo opened the scoring early in the game, finding the net in the 6th minute before adding his second goal in the 39th minute to put Portugal firmly in control before half-time.

Nuno Mendes doubled the advantage in the 17th minute, while further goals, including an own goal and a late strike from Rafael Leao, completed a comprehensive win for the Portuguese side.

The result marks Portugal’s first win of the tournament, following an underwhelming start, and significantly boosts their chances of progressing to the knockout stages.

Ronaldo’s brace was the highlight of the encounter, as the veteran forward made history by becoming the first player to score in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments, having now scored in every edition from 2006 to 2026.

He also became the oldest player at forty-one, in FIFA World Cup history to score a brace, further extending his legacy on the global stage.

The emphatic victory also underlined Portugal’s attacking quality, as they dominated proceedings from start to finish against a Uzbekistan side making their World Cup debut.

Portugal now moves closer to qualification from Group K, with momentum firmly on their side heading into their final group fixture.
