History has been rewritten at the 44th edition of Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant as Shatu Garko dressed in Hijab won the ultimate ten million naira grand prize and a brand new car. Garko defeated 17 other finalists at a keenly contested final held in Victoria Island Lagos. The Newly Crowned 18-year-old ‘Miss Nigeria’ advocated for a ‘no barrier’ between religion and culture, saying there rather be a merge of both to enhance peace, unity, and tolerance for a better society.
Manager of the Miss Nigeria Organization, Chioma Nwingwe insists the competition is not about beauty alone but economic empowerment of the girl child. With this, she says, the girl child gets inspired to achieve her dreams, and by extension, inspire others.
