More floods in 2023...
President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria is committed to tackling the climate crisis by embarking on bold actions.
The President, represented by Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi, said this at the Clean Energy Transition Event, held on the sidelines of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Egypt.
He commended African nations for demonstrating commitment through the signing of the Paris Agreement, submission of Nationally Determined Contributions and spending up to 9 per cent of GDP in addressing climate change issues.
The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency Mustapha Muhammed says the nation should expect more devastating floods in 2023.
The NEMA boss stated this while appearing before the Senate Committee on Special Duties headed by Senator Yusuf Yusuf to defend the 2023 budget proposal of his agency.
Mustapha said that governments at all levels should brace up for the challenges ahead by establishing local emergency committees to mitigate the devastating impacts of floods.
