Fracas around the Apapa axis of Lagos

We have reports of fracas around the Apapa axis of Lagos today. According to reports, 
the joint security team arrived Tin-Can’s first gate axis of the Mile 2-Apapa expressway to dislodge miscreants allegedly responsible for criminal activities in the area. It
was learned that the urchins resisted the action, leading to a fracas between the parties.

Expert faults section of Petroleum Industry Bill, applauds other sections

Meanwhile, Executive Director Centre for Transparency Advocacy, Faith Nwadishi has frowned against the allocation of 30% of profit on oil for frontier explorations in the amendments to the Petroleum Industry Bill passed by the House of Representatives.
Nwadishi applauded sections, 83, 104 to 108 of the new Bill which make provisions for contract transparency, disclosure, and outlaws gas flaring, and provides 5% operational cost for host communities.

Nigeria spends 60bn naira annually on vandalised infrastructure - Minister

Nigeria spends 60 billion naira annually on repair and maintenance of vandalised infrastructure across the country. 
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed stated this at a town hall meeting in Abuja. He explained that more than 1,000 pipelines across Nigeria have been vandalised and the Nigerian economy loses over 200,000 barrels of crude oil daily to pipeline vandals.

He called for stiffer laws and prosecution of those involved in pipeline vandalisation and economic sabotage.

Yemi Alade on setback female artists in Nigeria experience

Nigerian Afro-pop singer and songwriter, Yemi Alade, has identified criticism as one of the major setbacks to the careers of female artists in the country. The singer, who was speaking as a guest on COOL FM, Lagos, also believes female artists should be given just as much recognition as their male counterparts. 
She stated that her experiences are part of what shapes her type of music adding that her ability to sing in other languages also gives her an opportunity to connect with people around the world. 
 

Kaduna: Govt. closes 13 schools

The news begins with an update on the security situation in Kaduna following the recent abduction of students of Bethel Baptist School. 
The State Government has now ordered the closure of thirteen schools that were deemed vulnerable to kidnapping in the state.
Commissioner for Education, Dr Shehu Muhammad, said such schools will remain closed until the security situation in the state improves.
Muhammad said the schools were previously allowed to remain open because the state government was assured by the school's administrators of a strong arrangement with security agencies to secure the schools.

Southern Governors fix deadline for promulgation of anti-open grazing laws

Governors from Southern Nigeria have fixed September 21 as the deadline for the promulgation of the anti-open grazing laws in their various states.
This was part of a six-part communiqué issued after a meeting held in Lagos on Monday.
The governors also said the next president of Nigeria should come from the southern region of the country.
