The organizers of the Grammy Awards have recognized the expansion and worldwide impact of Afrobeats, featuring artists such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Rema as significant contributors to the genre's ascent since 2010.

In a recent article, the Recording Academy examined the development of Afrobeats from its mid-2010s breakthrough to its present global preeminence, stating: “From its rise in popularity in the mid-2010s to current worldwide, chart-topping supremacy by the likes of @wizkidayo, @burnaboy, and @heisrema, the essence of Afrobeats is continually evolving. ”

To commemorate the genre, the Academy published a compilation of the top ten Afrobeats tracks of all time, combining timeless classics with contemporary chart leaders. Featured songs include:

African Queen by 2Baba (2004)

Do Me by P-Square (2007)

Bumper 2 Bumper by Wande Coal (2009)

Pon Pon Pon by Dagrin (2009)

Azonto by Fuse ODG ft. Tiffany Owusu (2014)

Mad Over You by Runtown (2016)

Maradona by Niniola (2017)

Sungba by Asake (2022)

While some enthusiasts applauded the acknowledgment of Afrobeats' pioneers and present luminaries, others questioned the criteria employed for the selection.

Several fans believed that prominent artists like Davido were unjustly omitted.
