The back-and-forth over the so-called aerial bombardment in Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State has finally been put to rest as authorities say nine civilians were killed on Wednesday during the airstrike on Buwari community.

Secretary to the State Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Goje, says two of the 23 injured victims, who were critically injured, have been transferred to Yobe State University Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Goje, says the medical expenses of the victims are being taken care of by the state.

Earlier the Nigeria Air Force acknowledged the attack, saying a fighter jet fired some probing shots into the area following intelligence regarding the movement of terrorists along the Kamadougou Yobe River Line.

A spokesperson for the Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, described reports of civilian casualties as "unfortunate", adding that a previous report denying the attack was because the media described it as a "bombardment".

He said the aircraft was not carrying bombs and a board of inquiry has been set up to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the incident.
