The news begins with two executive bills from President Muhammadu Buhari that seeks to control the proliferation of arms as well as regulate importation of explosives into the country.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who received the requests from the president yesterday, said the bills seek to repeal the Explosives Act of 1964 and regulate the manufacture, storage, possession, use, distribution, purchase, sale, transportation, importation, and exportation of explosives.
Lawan added that President Buhari, in a second letter, urged the Senate to consider the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons Bill of 2021, to curb the security challenge in the country.
Staying with the Federal Government, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has directed emergency repairs on infrastructure where failure had occurred due to flooding in five states across the country.
Spokesperson for the ministry, Boade Akinola, said in a statement that the infrastructure for immediate intervention include the Ibadan – Ife road, Gombe – Bauchi road, and Gombe – Darazo road.
She said others are Bauchi to Ningi road, Bida to Lambata road, and Tsamiya Bridge in Jigawa State.
The statement assured of Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure development and appealed to commuters to be patient with the government as the excessive rains being witnessed have a negative effect on road construction and rehabilitation.
