"Nobody knows if any record will be successful..." - Ayuba

Veteran fuji singer, Adewale Ayuba, popularly known as Mr. Johnson recently granted an interview during which he bared his mind on several issues.

The singer has a strong belief that despite the dominance of hip-hop and afro-pop genres of music, fuji music will not die out.

Ayuba told Sunday Scoop, “As long as Nigeria exists, fuji music shall live. It is a genre of music we can call ours because of its cultural background.”

Speaking about the hay-days, Ayuba noted that he never envisaged that his hit song, 'Ijo Fuji', would be that successful.

“I was planning to make an album that would promote fuji music. Nobody knows if any record will be successful but to the glory of God, the song was accepted.”

Recalling the most unusual place he had ever got the inspiration for a song, he said he once got the inspiration for a song right in front of an officer at the American embassy in Lagos.

Ayuba also added that his forthcoming song was inspired by a personal experience. It is advice to parents about their children’s marital lives.

On another note, Adewale Ayuba poured accolades on the late musician, Victor Uwaifo.

He described late Uwaifo as a responsible artist who had recorded zero controversies over the years, adding that he had left an indelible mark on his chosen career, as a calm and consistent artist.

He encouraged artists to critically study the late musician’s works, life, and times, as his life was a good example of how an artist’s life should be.

"May his soul rest in peace," Ayuba said.
