WHO encourages wearing of nose and mouth covers

The University of Lagos has shut its hostels over coronavirus concerns. The school’s senate directed all students to vacate the hostels after holding an emergency meeting this afternoon. Students have until noon tomorrow to do so. Meanwhile, lectures for the rest of the semester will be delivered virtually.

Similarly, The World Health Organization is urging Nigerians to continue to observe non-pharmaceutical measures, such as wearing of nose and mouth covers, social distancing, and hand hygiene, to curb the transmission of Covid-19. WHO Country Representative, Dr Walter Kazadi, warns that the Delta variant of the virus is driving a new spike in cases and deaths.

This warning comes just as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says it recorded 154 new COVID-19 cases over a 24-hour period. The NCDC is now warning Muslim faithful against travelling, as they prepare to mark the 2021 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations next week.
