More new voters were registered in Osun
An update on the continuous Voter Registration exercise has shown that 73.5 percent of newly registered voters are young Nigerians between 18 and 34 years old.
The figures, released by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday, also show that over 1 million new voters have completed their online pre-registration in the last four weeks.
The data shows more new voters were registered in Osun while Edo has the second-highest number of new voters.
Yobe has the lowest fresh registrants with a little over 1,800.
Staying with election matters, governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party have insisted that the National Assembly must approve electronic transmission of election results, which had earlier been rejected by the lawmakers during a plenary on the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill.
The governors, after a six-hour meeting in Bauchi, also urged the National Assembly, Independent National Electoral Commission, National Communication Commission and other relevant agencies to facilitate the process before the 2023 general elections.
A ten-point communiqué read by Chairman of the PDP Governors’ forum, Waziri Tambuwa, further called on NCC, and all relevant stakeholders to ensure universal access and service of Information and Communication Technologies are provided especially in rural, un-served and under-served areas of the country before the 2023 general elections.
