About 5,890 terrorists surrender in North East

The surrender took place between August 12 and September 2

The Defence Headquarters says no fewer than 5,890 terrorists, comprising foot soldiers and their commanders, have surrendered with their families to troops in the North East.

DHQ spokesman, Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, told reporters in Abuja that the surrender took place between August 12 and September 2.

In addition, here's an update on the abducted students of Government Day Secondary School Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to the police, the kidnappers have returned five of the 73 students abducted on Wednesday.

A former councilor of Kaya ward, Yahaya Kaya, says the five students were taken back to their hometown Kaya, around one o’clock on Thursday morning.

It is not yet clear if the terrorists are asking for a ransom before the remaining students are released.
