Activities of Nigeria's anti-drug agency last week led to the arrest of three suspected transborder drug traffickers with 48,000 tablets of Tramadol. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, in a statement on Sunday, said the suspects were arrested while trying to smuggle the drug through Mubi, Adamawa state to Cameroon. The NDLEA says the suspects claimed the drugs were being taken to Bagira town along the Nigeria-Cameroon border to be delivered to some Cameroonians for onward delivery to Maroa, a town in Cameroon. The arrest followed a similar operation at Alaba Rago area of Lagos, where 1,229 kilos of cannabis was intercepted.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has done a lot to increase voters turnout under the administration of Professor Mahmood Yakubu. On our sister station- Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, INEC Commissioner on Voter education, Festus Okoye says the number of polling units has increased from what it used to be and brought closer to the people. Okoye adds that INEC has created an online platform for pre-registration of voters. However, he is appealing to Nigerians to ensure their biometrics registration is completed physically in their state or Local Government office as the Commission doesn’t leave data permanently on its portal.

At least nine people have died and several more have been injured, local media report, after a bomb attack in northern Kenya on a public commuter van, locally known as matatu. No one has taken responsibility for the attack, but al-Shabab insurgents have attacked police and civilians in and around Mandera with several fatalities in recent years. The attack comes barely a week after several foreign embassies in Kenya, including the US and France, warned its citizens of possible terror attacks in the country.

Egypt and Senegal are through to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after wins against Morocco and Equatorial Guinea. Sofiane Boufal gave Morocco an early lead with a penalty, but Liverpool's Mohamed Salah tapped in an equalizer. 10 minutes into extra time, Salah squared for Aston Villa's Trezeguet to tap in a winner. The Pharaohs will face hosts in Cameroon in Thursday's semi-final while Senegal will play against Burkina Faso.
